Baby Card & Little Girl's Birthday Card

I have been making a lot of baby blue cards lately as thank-you cards for our dear little boy to come. So for a change, I was making some wedding cards and birthday cards these couple of days.

Here is a baby card for my friend. I find it hard to make a baby card without knowing the gender of the baby (especially when I don't have a lot of nice yellow paper). Believe it or not, this simple simple baby card took me 2 hours to make (design and assemble). On the right is a birthday card for a little girl. I used my friend's circle cutter to crop out the circle. :) It provides such a nice clean cut which gives my card a more polished look.

CoCoNut Cards Logo

Using my new Martha Stewart's Set Your Own stamp set, I have created a new 'logo' for my cards. :) Here are some of my thoughts about the new stamping set:

Like:

  • Great for stamping different messages
  • Comes with two circle and two rectangle mounts

Dislike:
  • Small font letters come off the mount easily. Not good to create a stamp set for more permanent use.
  • Small letters are hard to place (Kit comes with a tweezer, but the tweezer is too big to set small letters)
  • Set comes with a circle border, but I can't seem to be able to mount both the border and fonts together.

My new toy! Martha Stewart's Custom Stamp Setting Kit

I got myself a new crafting toy today. I figure instead of spending money to buy different stamps for different messages, I can create my own! And I can also make my "CoCoNut Cards" logo with this stamping kit. :)

Hellow Kitty Birthday card

Rarely do I use a cartoon character to create my cards. But for a special little girl, I can't think of any better than creating a girly hello kitty card. I love these little girl's cards. I just love all the pink and purple colours, and floral and glittery embellishments. :)

Baby thank you cards

With our baby expecting to arrive in the next month and a half, we started receiving presents from friends. What's more personal than making my own cards to show our appreciation to these friends. :)

I went to Michaels hoping to use my 50% coupon, but of course, I ended up buying a lot more stuff. :) First I saw these cute baby ribbons and charms. Then I saw these white square blank cards (8 for $1.50!). I seem to like to work with square cards more, especially ones that are not too big. I will go back to Michaels to grab more of these blank square cards. I am going to have fun making more Thank You cards the next couple of weeks.

Thank you cards

I have been pretty motivated with cards making lately. I made several Thank You cards last night. I took out my stamps and embossed powder which I haven't used for a while and was stamping away the different "thank you". This is probably the first time I am pretty happy with how the "thank you" stamps are being incorporated with the cards.

My set of three "thank you" cards.

Home Sweet Home

Two good friends finally settled into their love nest.So I made a house warming card to celebrate their new home. I am sure their home will be filled with love. :) I like the concept of the "Home Sweet Home", but admit I probably used the wrong choice of ribbon in this case. Now that I am adding more ribbons to my cards, I should buy for ribbon supplies for my card making. :)

2 baby cards for the October babies

October / November must be the baby season, so many friends and coworkers just welcomed their little ones. I made 2 baby cards for my friends. One of them is also a card maker, so I was even more cautious with picking out the paper coordination. I followed the Super Sunday Sketch for this card. Hope she will like it!

The second one took less time. I had this lady bug for a baby scrapbooking element set. It looked a bit plain so I added several crystals embellishments on it. The little extra touch definitely brightened up the card!

August handmade wedding card, red-inspired

After Janny's wedding, I fell in love with the red colour. I used JH wedding theme colours to make the card.

I glued clear glitter on the cake to give it a cute shine.

A child's birthday card

Made this card for little Tulia. It's a pretty happy card for a little girl, don't you think? :)

Happy house-warming!

I made this card for my friend's house-warming. When I made it months ago, I intentionally kept it simple, but when I look at it now, it looks a bit too plain... If I could edit the card, I would probably make the center a bit bigger, and may be add a little house or something.

Pat's birthday card

Today is my little brother's Pat's birthday. Since he's moved to London to work, I haven't seen him for almost a year! I made him this cute and 充滿童真 alien birthday card. It's a bit kiddy, but then, to me, he is always a little kid.

365Cards Challenge: Day 29 "Hang in There"

Several dear friends are facing challenges, health, family, marriage, work. I wish all of my friends the best of luck. Hang in there!

Card for my Day 29 challenge "Hang in there"

Origami is one of my favourite hobbies since I was a kid. I made these origami shirts, drew the hangers, glued some mini crystals on them, and voila! Still unrusting myself from all the cards making, that's why it still took me 2 hours or so to come up with this card.

365Cards Challenge: Day 28 - Super Sketchy Sunday

I learned about this 365 card blog from my friend. I finally decided to follow one of the sketch to try it out myself.

My card
I am a little rusty with my card making. Hopefully my cards will look better with more practices. :)

Baby's 1-month celebration card

It is a Chinese custom to have a celebration when baby turns one month old. We went to celebrate a friend's son one-month today. I made little Matthew this "slightly geeky" card. I am sure his parents would understand. :)

This card was a bit flat to begin with. So I cut the "Hello World" out from the card, to glue on another green card stock to provide some layering. I also embossed stars around the card.

Mom's Birthday Card

It's my mom's birthday tomorrow. I have been trying to make her the perfect birthday card. But since I have been so rusty at making cards; I had a tough time making a decent one. I am not extremely proud of this card, but I do like the element that I made. I cut each of the petal and glue them together to form a flower. I think it's pretty cute.

I have a friend who is pretty crazy with handmade cards. It's been fun sharing ideas and items with her. Because of her inspirations, I am sure I will make more cards this year. :)

J&E's wedding card

It was Joanne and Eric's 大日子 (wedding) yesterday. It was my first time invited to a tent wedding. Though slightly hot, but it was definitely much better than the thunderstorm we got last weekend. The bride looked good! I looovvvveee her dresses. :)

I made a wedding card for them. This is the first time I successfully use ribbons for my cards. The trick is to use double sided tape to tape the ribbons, and wrap the ends behind a piece of paper, so the ends won't show and become "frilly". I also used eyelets for the card, which I haven't used for a while. (I usually make cards in wee hours, my downstairs neighbour probably wouldn't want to hear me hammering the eyelets then.)

Congrats Joanne and Eric!!

Mother's Day Weekend

I am ready for Mother's Day! I made our mothers handmade cards. I love making my mom handmade cards, since she always appreciates receiving them, and will even display them in the family room for a while. :)

:) ) I am trying out the quilling method after seeing Diana has been addicted to quilling lately :)

Mother's Day Card for our Moms.

When I first tried this, I made a lot of different types of flowers, but I had trouble arranging them. This was my very first quilling card. It is not as nice, so I will just keep it to myself.

My first quilling card

It is the best to make a gift for mom. It's thoughtful yet not expensive. (You know how mom are always worried about kids spending too much money...) This year, I made my mom a necklace. :) Dinner with my mom tonight, and then dinner with Ka's mom tomorrow. Happy Mother's Day weekend!

Pain points last night: Right knee
Pain points this morning: Right knee, left shin, right upper back, right elbow (whole body just feels tight)

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday. We went out to have dinner together. My brother got my mom a very pretty crystal necklace (let me add the Swarovski necklace to my wish list for my birthday). I was going to try to make a necklace for my mom, but my online order of beads didn't arrive in time. (I will give that to her for mother's day:P) Instead I got her 6 pairs of Japanese chopsticks, and of course as always, I made her a birthday card. :) (My mom actually kept everyone of the cards that I made her. :))

Happy Dada' Day!

I made a hand-craft gift & card for both dads. This may seem kiddy to many, but I always like giving our parents these kinds of kiddy gifts. It is like a little reminder that their little girl is always a little girl (and that they will feel they are still young). For Ka's dad, I made a happy family with rings around. The connected rings represent a family always being together. This way he will have the family staying with him at all times. For my parents, I made the happy Kwan's family, with an added member to the family this year, Ka!

We went to visit Ka's dad in the morning. Not sure if he stayed up late watching tv last night, but he seemed very sleepy this morning. He was still happy to see the gift we made him.

At night, we took my dad to Lobster Royale for a yummy lobster dinner. Everyone was happy with the dinner (though they were really rushing us out the door).

Happy Father's Day to all dad's out there!
